Grenville Charles is a freelance photographer A large portion of his work is in TV and film stills for the
BBC and Granada Television amongst others. He has worked on historical productions such as The Brighton Bombing, The Iranian Embassy, Anastassia, The Real Dick Turpin and Gladiatrix, and feature films such as Hush, Doghouse, The Reeds, Splintered and The Damned United. Grenville started shooting and developing images when he was nine years
old and was awarded a B'tec National Diploma in Photography from
Plymouth college of Art & Design in 1986. He later studied printmaking
at Central St Martins College in London. Some of his fine art work utilizes his printmaking skills in combination with his photography.

He has a passion for tribal cultures. This led him to travel to Asia
where he photographed the Vietnam Hill Tribes of the central highlands. A year later he traveled to the remote jungles of West Papua to document the Korowai and Mek tribes and most recently the Kombai and Asmat. A
portfolio of this work appeared in the fine art photography magazine
Silvershotz (March, 2008).

He was shortlisted in 2004 and was the runner up in 2008 for the Wanderlust Travel Photographer of the Year Award. In 2008 he was one of only 22 photographers selected from international applications to participate in a 5 day Magnum Workshop led by Magnum photographers Carl De Keyzer, Mark Power and David Hurn.He has had images exhibited in The Photographers Gallery in London and the Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool.
